Arnold Schwarzenegger- The Living Legend
The moment someone speaks out Terminator, the next and only name that comes to your mind is Arnold Schwarzenegger, the mega robot from the blockbuster movie who has been an icon for all and a heartthrob for millions. Holding the title of Mr. Universe for three consecutive years and Mr. Olympia for seven times, the Commando has been a inspiration for body builders across the globe.
Born on July 30th 1947, Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is a world famous actor, model, writer former professional body builder and a politician. The world associates him well with the name Terminator and Predator, as the muscle man who fought all the evil singlehandedly!
Born in an Austrian family in a city of Graz in Styria to Gustav and Aurelia Schwarzenegger, Arnold had a disturbed childhood. Not having good relations with his father who was strict and abusive towards his second child, Arnold grew up to be closer to his mom and kept in touch with her until her death. Arnold was a cheerful kid child despite many monetary problems in the family and recalls getting a refrigerator as a memorable instance within the family.
Body Building Career
Arnold was interested into sports and took to soccer. It was then when his coach took his to a local gym that he lifted his first dumbbell and finally at the tender age of fourteen took to body building over soccer. Reg Park, Steve Reeves, and Johnny Weissmuller were his body building idols and would often go to movie theatres to watch them onscreen.
He served in the Austrian military for one year which was mandatory for all 18 year old Austrian youngsters. It was during this time, while serving in army, he won the Junior Mr. Europe contest. Post that he won another body building contest in his own city, Graz and then there was no stopping. Mr. Universe title brought him to America where he won the title in 1967 at the age of twenty. His training was a dream come true with his childhood inspiration Reg Park who became his mentor for the international title which he went on to one for three consecutive years. Winning Mr. Olympia made him the greatest body builder of the world when he was just twenty three and thus setting up a world record that remains undeterred till date. He continued to win Mr. Olympia title seven times when he finally retired from the competition in 1980.
His body building career also offered him a break in Hollywood with Hercules in New York which was followed by other movies highlighting his masculinity and bodybuilding. In 1984, when The Terminator hit the theaters, it took his acting career on an elevation. Terminator 2, became the highest-grossing film of 1991.
Arnold also made his space into the politics and was elected as the Governor of California in 2003 by winning the elections by about 1.3 million votes. He even got re-elected in the year2006. An environmental considerate he signed a bill setting new regulations on the amount of emissions release from refineries and manufacturing plants.
