The ratiocination behind using such a harsh adjective with toothache can be best understood by those who ever had to go through the fiendish pain. Toothache, as is claimed by many, is the worst kind of pain. Ask them, what hurts more burning your hand on the kitchen flame or a toothache. Toothache, they will tell you. Believe or not, toothache can really hurt and it gets bad with passing time. More often than not, toothaches are accompanied by a fever or a headache and a little swelling around the tooth. So if you suffer a tooth injury, treat it immediately without wasting any time before it gets worse.

Tooth decay is the most common reasons that cause toothaches. Other causes may be a gum disease, tooth trauma, an infection or tooth eruption in little kids. It is highly suggested that you see your dentist if your toothache lasts longer than 2 days, you catch fever, or you feel pain upon opening your mouth wide. But if you are in awe of dentists and do not want to visit one, there are some remedies that you can try yourself to relieve the pain:

Toothache-Woman

  • Hydrogen peroxide– rinse your mouth with the mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Do this regularly to get rid of your toothache.
  • Salt water– mix one teaspoon of table salt in a glass of water and gargle with it. Repeat it more often to experience instant relief.
  • Pain relievers like ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) effectively relieves the toothache.
  • Clove oil- directly apply the clove oil or eugenol on the affected area. It numbs the gum and thus alleviates the pain.
  • Alcohol– drinking a little bit of whiskey, scotch, brandy, or vodka helps relieving the toothache. And in case you don’t consume liquor, a strong mouthwash that contains alcohol will also do the trick.
  • Oregano oil– soak a cotton ball in the mixture of oregano oil and olive oil and rub directly on the sore area. Olive oil can be replaced with lukewarm water.
  • Tea tree oil– add a few drops of tree tea oil in a glass of water and rinse your mouth with it. Or you can directly apply the tea tree oil in the hurting tooth.
  • Black pepper– black pepper provides wonderful results and provides relief to the aching tooth in no time. Apply a mixture of black pepper and salt on the aching tooth to alleviate pain.
  • Garlic– mash a clove of garlic and keep it near the sore tooth. Garlic also provides instant relief from the toothache.
  • Apple cider vinegar– soak a cotton ball with apple cider vinegar and gently hold it in the aching corner of your mouth.
  • Onion– slice a piece of fresh onion and keep it inside your mouth.
  • A paste of cayenne pepper eases the pain
  • Baking soda– mix a little baking soda in a glass full of lukewarm water and rinse your mouth with it. Or dip the cotton in the water and roll it over the baking soda and then hold it near the sore tooth.

If you do not want to develop toothaches try building a regular oral hygiene routine and stick to it. Brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day to prevent gum diseases.
